Hospital Beds & Accessories

Home Hospital Beds can get confusing. We are here to help you understand the terminology and features available with our home hospital beds. Below are some basic terms used when talking about beds.

Semi Electric - This means the bed has two motors, one to raise the foot section (bending at the knees), and another motor to lift the head section. The entire height of the bed is raised and lowered manually via a crank on the foot section.

Full Electric - This means the bed has three motors, one to raise the foot section (bending at the knees), and another motor to lift the head section, and the last motor will raise and lower the entire height of the bed.

Half Rails - Half rails are designed to only go on the head section of the bed typically for patients that are moving in and out of the bed by themselves and need a stable bar to use while getting out of bed. These can also be dropped to be even with the mattress for easier access or changing of sheets, etc. Most patients prefer this style.

Full Rails - Full rails can also be used as an aid for getting in and out of the bed, but they are primarily used to keep patients that are fall risks in bed. These typically are used when the patient has a primary caregiver or nurse to help with the lowering and raising of the rail.

Overlays - Overlays are products designed to go over top of a standard mattress to aid in patient comfort, they could be made from foam, gel, or even air bladders.
